Kodi’s Message raises awareness on youth bullying and suicide
Kodi’s Message exists to raise awareness around the seriousness of bullying, both at school and online, and the impact it can have on a young person. The program aims to positively influence the attitudes and behaviours of young people.
Kodi Pearson was bullied at school and online and it drove him to take his own life. He was 14 years old. No child should ever have to experience that and no family should ever need to suffer the crippling grief of losing a young member of their family.
Kodi’s message exists to help other kids and families avoid this horrific situation.
When you think of teenagers and suicide, you think of someone who is depressed and isolated. To put the words ‘Kodi’ and ‘suicide’ in the same sentence would have been unthinkable, but months later the Pearson family are trying to get their heads around the events that lead to 11th July 2016. Kodi was driven to take his own life because of bullying – both at school and online. In a family where there is never a shortage of love and everyone wears their hearts on their sleeves, life will never ever be the same again.
